Drink More Water or MilkThere are many great reasons to replace soda with water. It’s time to take control of your health and make this change. The sodium benzoate in soda is one of the causes of allergies. The phosphoric acid is a leading cause of osteoporosis. Did you know that gluten is in the caramel coloring? The high fructose corn syrup can also cause allergies. When you’re drinking soda, the hormone that tells the brain that you are full is suppressed.  The amount of sugar in soda is high – more than a half cup in three cans. Many teens and preteens may drink 2 or more cans per day. Soda increases the acid pH in your body. The aluminum in the cans can be a concern for brain health. Regular drinkers of soda can have a lower bone mineral density than those who don’t drink soda. Caffeine can interfere with calcium absorption.

Start replacing each can of soda with a glass of milk or calcium-fortified orange juice. Take a calcium and Vitamin D supplement if you’re not getting the RDA.
